PLATELET-RICH PLASMA (PRP) FACIAL

You probably have seen a celebrity’s face on Instagram covered with small splatters of blood.

Platelet-rich plasma facial also known by “Vampire Facial” is the latest trends in skin care, a minimally invasive procedure to rejuvenate the skin. PRP is derived from a portion of blood which contains platelets. Platelets stimulate cell turnover since they contain high levels of growth factors. It is essentially an energy boost for your skin. It increase collagen and elastin production, and it also brings in antioxidants to the skin.

It is used along with micro-needling to enhance penetration into the skin and is even being injected to the skin.

Some notable celebrities who have done PRP Vampire Facials are Entertainment mogul Kim Kardashian West, Bachelor star Keira Maguire, Israeli model Bar Refaeli.

The Procedure

1

Blood is withdrawn from the vein into the tube.

2

The tube is then placed through a centrifuge to separate the platelets.

3

Once the platelets in the blood are separated, the plasma is then withdrawn from the tube with a syringe.

4

Microneedling, is a procedure to create thousands of microscopic needle holes into the dermis of skin. It is done prior to applying the platelet serum to the face as it will allow for channels in the skin to allow the for penetration.

5

Finally the treatment stimulates production of collagen.
