Built for Alexandria Runners

You've logged miles on the Mount Vernon Trail every week for two years, training for a fall race. But lately, your easy runs don't feel easy anymore. Your doctor orders blood work. Your hemoglobin is in range, but your ferritin comes back at 22. The advice? Eat more iron-rich foods and try an iron supplement.

It's a situation runners around Del Ray and Old Town may recognize. Distance training can put extra demand on iron stores, and low iron may start affecting how you feel before anemia shows up on a standard blood test. That's why looking at ferritin, along with other iron markers, can be important when symptoms and performance start to change.

For some people, oral iron can also cause digestive side effects, which is the last thing you want while managing long runs, workouts, and recovery days.

Getting to a traditional infusion center during business hours can mean dealing with Route 1 or I-395 traffic, spending time in a waiting room, and rearranging a schedule already built around work and training. With Drip Gym, Dr. Pervaiz Qureshi, MD, Medical Director, supervises each case, and a Virginia-licensed RN can bring Venofer® to your home along the Mount Vernon Trail corridor. You receive your prescribed treatment without turning an infusion appointment into a disruption to your training day.

ABOUT VENOFER® AND HOW WE KEEP YOU SAFE

Venofer® (Iron Therapy IV) is iron sucrose, the same IV iron formulation used at Inova Alexandria Hospital and major hospital systems across the U.S. It delivers absorbable iron directly into your bloodstream, bypassing the digestive issues that make oral supplements intolerable for many patients.

We require recent lab work. A CBC and ferritin test within the past 90 days before every infusion. This confirms you're iron-deficient and protects against iron overload, a real medical risk if you're given IV iron when you don't need it.

  • Active infection or fever at time of visit = immediate rescheduling
  • Known iron overload conditions (hemochromatosis) = not a candidate
  • Certain pregnancy stages are screened out for safety
  • Real-time physician backup available during every home visit
  • RNs trained in adverse-reaction protocols and carry emergency supplies

Real Stories From Alexandria

★★★★★

“My pace had dropped, and I honestly thought I was just training badly.” My labs showed my ferritin was 16. I had my infusion at home near Del Ray, which was much easier than trying to fit another appointment into my week. Afterward, my long runs gradually started feeling manageable again.

-Whitney, Del Ray
★★★★★

“I really didn't want to lose an entire morning just for an infusion appointment.” Drip Gym came to my home on King Street instead. I was able to have the infusion at home and still keep the rest of my day pretty much as planned.

-Caleb, Old Town
★★★★★

“My coach was actually the one who suggested I ask about my ferritin.” I'd had two racing seasons where I just felt flat and couldn't understand why. No one had specifically mentioned ferritin to me before. After discussing my results and getting treatment, I started noticing a difference in how I felt.

-Sophia, Rosemont
★★★★★

“Between marathon training and working full time, I kept putting the appointment off.” Drip Gym worked around my schedule and booked the infusion on my rest day. That made the whole thing much easier to manage without rearranging my work or training week.

-Trevor, Seminary Hill

Questions Alexandria Patients Ask

At-home Venofer® infusions start at $400 per session, with package pricing available including a buy 5 infusions, get 1 free offer. Pricing includes the prescribed Venofer® medication, licensed RN visit, clinical supplies, physician-reviewed lab work, and post-infusion follow-up guidance. HSA/FSA payments are accepted. Most insurance plans do not cover mobile IV iron unless documented anemia and medical-necessity criteria are met.

Venofer® is iron sucrose, a prescription IV formulation that delivers iron directly into your bloodstream. It bypasses your digestive system, so there's no stomach cramping or nausea. Most patients experience symptom improvement within 2 to 4 weeks.

Most patients tolerate Venofer® well. Mild side effects can include metallic taste, headache, or slight nausea. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible, which is why we monitor you closely throughout.

Anyone with confirmed low ferritin, typically below 30 ng/mL, who is symptomatic with fatigue, hair loss, or brain fog, and who either cannot tolerate oral iron or needs faster results. You'll need recent CBC and ferritin labs, and our supervising physician reviews every case before approval.

It's a common cause among distance runners and cyclists. Endurance training increases red blood cell turnover and can gradually deplete iron stores even when hemoglobin still looks normal. If your pace has slipped without an obvious reason, ferritin is worth checking.

If you book before 11:00 AM, we can often schedule same-day service for an afternoon arrival window. Standard bookings are typically within 24 to 48 hours. You'll select a 90-minute window that works around King Street or Route 1 traffic.

Yes. Many Alexandria patients book infusions on a planned rest day or the morning after a long run so recovery lines up naturally. Let us know your training schedule when booking.

Yes. Mobile service extends to Del Ray, Rosemont, Seminary Hill, and Potomac Yard as part of standard coverage across the City of Alexandria.
